In 2005 the management of the Somerset Mall requested the development of the relatively unstructured eastern end of the mall. This space on one hand offers a view to the surrounding mountains but on the other hand it does not inspire one to stay or to engage in creative activities. The idea was developed in collaboration at that time with Peerutin Architects in Cape Town and is to
create an island or rather an oasis. A new space for rest, family events, views or just a comfortable place to observe the action on the existing climbing wall. A powerful space conducive to interaction. It is comprised of a raised circle of terraces which surrounds a lower activity room. Here all kinds of performances can take place, while the visitor dines or enjoys something
to drink in the different zones of the terrace created for relaxation day and night.
