Information and operations building of the Fire Brigade
Hanover, next to the EXPO ground
A further fire station is to be developed adjacent to the trade show ground in Hanover due to the expansion of the next EXPO.
City of Hanover, Germany, student project
The building is found between agricultural land of different dimensions, pace and users. The trade show grounds, once positioned in the countryside free from the urban environment, has in the meanwhile been closed in on and surrounded by
the cities expansion. The speed at which the countryside has been inhabited expresses itself in the various networked structures. The new building should convey, identity, orientation and invite one to approach. With dwindling daylight the building becomes increasingly translucent and illuminated. An urban square connects the train station with the trade show grounds and with the
planted trees encourages the flow through the area.
The building is comprised of different areas: the administration, the operational area and the vehicle halls, the practice yard with tower and a visitor’s area. Lamellar structures on the façade and the roof use and control the rays of the sun and save electricity.
